A well-known legend is that Cuijk once had city rights but sold them to the village of Grave, which is now a city. Well, is this really true? The name Cuijk is derived from the Celtic word 'Keukja', which means 'bend' or 'curve'. This refers to the bend or curve in the Maas at the height of Cuijk. 'Keukja' was later corrupted by the Romans to 'Ceuclum' from which the name Cuijk eventually arose.

The village of Cuijk is the cultural heart of the Land van Cuijk. In various museums you will find many local, regional, national and international cultural-historical treasures. In addition, there are a large number of artists active. In addition to culture, there are many other sights. Cuijk is a municipality where there is something for everyone to experience.

And if you are there during the weekend… visit the famous Free Market of Cuijk on Saturday: over 1,500 stalls make this covered and heated Free Market a paradise for rummagers, tinkerers and collectors.
